Common use cases

Privacy-conscious individuals use it to redact personal information — names, addresses, ID numbers, phone numbers, or faces — before sharing screenshots on social media, in support tickets, or in public forums.

Security researchers and bug reporters use it to blur sensitive data in screenshots before submitting vulnerability reports or attaching evidence to bug trackers, keeping credentials and internal URLs out of public reports.

Journalists and content creators use it to protect the identities of sources or bystanders in photos before publication, without needing a full-featured desktop image editor.

HR and legal teams use it to redact employee names, salaries, or confidential identifiers in screenshots before circulating documents internally or submitting them for review.

Developers and QA engineers use it to blur API keys, tokens, or personal data visible in UI screenshots before adding them to documentation, issue trackers, or team wikis.

Frequently asked questions

How do I censor an image?

Upload or drop an image into the tool, choose a mode (Blur or Censor), then click and drag on the image to draw a rectangle over the area you want to hide. The selected region is processed immediately. Repeat for as many areas as needed, then click Download to save the result.

Is the image uploaded to a server?

No. Image Censor processes your image entirely in your browser using the HTML Canvas API. The file is read locally and never transmitted anywhere, making it safe to use with screenshots containing personal information, ID documents, faces, API keys, or confidential data.

Should I use blur or censor mode for redaction?

Use Censor (pixelate) mode for sensitive information like names, ID numbers, faces, or financial details — coarse pixel blocks make the original content very difficult to reconstruct. Blur looks softer and is better suited for backgrounds or incidental content where strong readability is less critical. For any content that truly must not be readable, use Censor and set the strength high.

What image formats are supported?

Any image format your browser can decode — typically PNG, JPG/JPEG, WebP, GIF, and AVIF. The downloaded output file is saved as PNG by default (lossless), or as JPG when the source image is a JPG.

Can I undo a region I drew?

Yes. Click the Undo button to remove the most recently drawn region, or click Clear to remove all regions at once and start fresh. Changes are not permanent until you click Download.
